Gears of War
Description (IGDB)
A third-person tactical shooter from Epic, running on the Unreal Engine 3. Gears of War thrusts gamers into a deep and harrowing story of humankind's epic battle for survival against the Locust Horde, a nightmarish race of creatures that surface from the bowels of the planet. Unlike other shooters, Gears of War is all about teamwork in a big way. All game modes, levels and scenarios are designed specifically to encourage co-operative play, whether it be with A.I. partners or human players (with A.I. teammates designed with specific strengths, weaknesses and personalities.) On top of that, voice recognition will be available for players, and obviously voice chat to discuss strategy with your friends. In addition to voice chat, gamers will be able to experience individualized matchmaking, view player statistics, earn player achievements, customize their games, and build and personalize their gamer profiles over Xbox Live.

« Each stage is memorable...They all combine for an unforgettable adventure through 36 hectic, desperate hours of a group of soldiers' lives...A visual and visceral masterpiece. »
« Gears of War is truly a breakthrough: The absolute finest game of its kind. The bar has definitely been raised. What Halo did for first-person shooters, Gears does for third person - it's that good. »
« Huge, muscular combatants move like giant men wearing heavy gear, fine details are everywhere, and splattering blood never looked so beautiful - and we mean that in an uncreepy, non-Hannibal Lecter kind of way. It just looks incredible. »
« I'm smitten with Gears of War and all its glorious, horrific violence, blood and anarchy. Move over Master Chief, 'cause Marcus Fenix will kick your bony ass all over town. »
« It's all about the gameplay, and Gears of War delivers in that department so completely that it wouldn't matter if you were playing the game in 16 bit graphics. But you're not. And Gears of War's glorious presentation - everything from the sound effects to the art direction to the awesomely dark storyline - only enhances what lies at the heart of Gears' destroyed beauty: the gameplay. »
« The single impression that I've consistently had about this game since I put the disc in my 360 was one of total and absolute awe and shock. Gears of War doesn't just raise the bar for what we expect from next-gen games, it doubles its height. »
« No longer a covert operation, Epic's sci-fi shooter Gears of War has finally emerged, and it's pretty much everything we hooped it would be, as well as a few things we didn't expect. [Holiday 2006, p.41] »
« We'll just come out and say it: Gears of War is better than "Halo"... It's a fantastic-looking, riveting, fire-first-ask-questions-never third-person shooter that manages to show you things that you've never seen before on a console. »

« Que les puedo decir Cuándo jugué gears war por primera vez No pude esperar a jugar los otros dos es increíble una horita sumamente buena la ame ojala poder jugar Gears war por primera vez porque una vez que lo pasas jamas JAMAS se vuelve a repetir eso »
« Quite enjoyable shooting. Apparently, it's the first game to use a cover system. Unfortunately, I missed the release, so I don't have fond memories of this game. And since I've seen the cover system many times in other titles, I can only rate the original lower. »
« Gears of War – 9.4/10 - A genre-defining third-person shooter that set the gold standard for cover-based combat. Its gritty atmosphere, weighty gunplay, and intense encounters with the Locust Horde create a constant sense of tension. The bond between Marcus and Dom adds emotional depth, while the co-op experience shines. Though slightly dated in pacing today, its influence and execution remain undeniable. »
« The game feels dull, monotonous and with the worst color pallet I might I have ever seen in a videogame, everything is gray, you can barely distinguish the enemies from the background, and I do not care about being "gritty", grey≠gritty, also there is nothing intense about this game, the dialogue is so juvinile and full of millenial writing moments and the story is as basic as humanly possible, characters are written like caricatures, and you are telling me this is a game to take seriously and that should be all dark and gritty? I know that in 2006 millenial writing wasn't so overused but as today it's still annoying to hear it. Even if we ignore all that the game it's still boring and frustrating for how unprecise the controls feel and how unfair the level design is, but even with that the game is weirdly easy because of the fast self healing and the abusable covers who protect you from any time of damage, so basically you either win without effort or die randomly because 3 enemies spawned right next to you. Music is the classic cringe moviegame soundtrack, the shooting is werdly unprecise even with long range weapons, only positive thing is the reload mechanic and the fact that all weapons feel heavy and impactful. I know the game popularized cover shooters but I don't really know if that is a good thing, I like cover mechanics on paper but I have yet to see a game implement it well, they always do that stupid thing that this game started doing, that you need a button to both enter into a cover position and to detach from it, it limits the flow of your movement so much, why not just have the character take cover when you press against it or after you crouch. »
« One of my favorite game of all time. Amazing story, cool characters and great combat. »
« I was so excited to play it but unfortunately it didn't hit for me, probably because of the poor gameplay and also considering that its as old as me lol, i'll try to finish it because i loved the story and the lore overall »
« Idk, if it's because it's 20 years old or the game just doesn't hit. The multiplayer is just people wall bouncing and the campaign has a great story but it's told in such a awful way. I never wrote bad reviews but I couldn't even finish the game. It's just so borrding. Every level is on repeat. Kill 4 guys, move up, kill 4 guys and make sure to get the guy on turret. Kick a down down, repeat. And every section looks the same. The same 3 levels on repeat. Do have to admit though gears 2 is way better. »
« OMG this is the definition of a supreme couch co-op shooter! I can't tell you the amount of hours I would play this with anyone who came over! The design, lore, world building and top notch visuals, controls, gameplay, and mechanics are what really stand out and were never intrusive to single-player or co-op gameplay modes! »
