Description (IGDB)

Metro 2033 is a first-person shooter with survival horror elements, based on the Russian book of the same name by Dmitry Glukhovsky. Most of the game takes place underground, but several times Artyom will have to venture outside, into the perpetual nuclear winter. Game progression is fairly linear, though areas may be explored more thoroughly for items and ammunition. Setpieces include a few on-rails sequences, missions that involve defending a location from an onslaught of monsters, and others. A few stages can be completed in a stealthy fashion.

Histoire (IGDB)

Set in the shattered subway of a post apocalyptic Moscow, Metro 2033 is a story of intensive underground survival where the fate of mankind rests in your hands. In 2013 the world was devastated by an apocalyptic event, annihilating almost all mankind and turning the earth's surface into a poisonous wasteland. A handful of survivors took refuge in the depths of the Moscow underground, and human civilization entered a new Dark Age. The year is 2033. An entire generation has been born and raised underground, and their besieged Metro Station-Cities struggle for survival, with each other, and the mutant horrors that await outside. You are Artyom, born in the last days before the fire, but raised Underground. Having never ventured beyond your Metro Station-City limits, one fateful event sparks a desperate mission to the heart of the Metro system, to warn the remnants of mankind of a terrible impending threat. Your journey takes you from the forgotten catacombs beneath the subway to the desolate wastelands above, where your actions will determine the fate of mankind.

Quelques points me chagrinent...

The OG Metro duo can now be yours on GOG, and they come with a fresh coat of performance polish

Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light are iconic in their own ways. Though both FPS games are showing their age - they're over a decade old, after all - they're still incredible experiences that are well worth playing if you haven't already. Now, the pair can be yours on GOG, which is fabulous if you're DRM-avoidant. As part of GOG's Preservation Program, both Metro 2033 and Last Light's Complete Edition come with some extra bells and whistles that help them stand the test of time a little bit more. Free deal makes classic FPS Metro 2033 explode on Steam, and it's still cheap

Metro 2033 Redux is having a birthday to remember. Marking 15 years of the apocalyptic survival FPS series, developer 4A Games and publisher Deep Silver gave away copies of the original game's remastered edition, and it's had a surprisingly big impact. Previously peaking at just under 15,000 active players back in 2018, Metro 2033 has just reached a new high of more than 50,000 concurrent users on the Valve platform, and it's looking likely to continue that success for a third day straight as players discover its charm. Classic post-nuclear shooter Metro 2033 Redux is now free to keep on Steam and GOG

15 years on from the release of Metro 2033, I still think with fondness and yearning of the Uboinik automatic shotgun. It’s a six chamber cylindrical affair with mouthwatering red shells that dangle before your trigger finger like pert, juicy plums. This is just to say / I have shot / the shells / that were in / the shotgun / and which / you were probably / saving / for the mutant round the corner. / Forgive me / they were murderous / so sockety / and so round. Ahem. Reloading the shotgun is an intricate process of 1) sliding four shells into the available chambers while tossing the weapon jauntily from hand to hand, and then 2) cocking it again to expose and fill the remaining two chambers. You can also chamber a single shell and cock the weapon, if you don’t have time for a full reload, which means when you load another four shells and fire them, there’ll be an empty chamber to reckon with midway through the next burst. That empty chamber has gotten me killed a dozen times, I think. Read more

Critiques de la Presse (Metacritic)

MS Xbox World 95/100

« The ideal Metro 2033 player is someone looking for something new, something immersive and something really, really hard. If you fit that description, we cannot recommend Metro 2033 highly enough. »

GamingExcellence 94/100

« Regardless of how the story ends the experience itself is worth the price of admission. »

Vandal 92/100

« Novel and videogame join to compose a very interesting proposal in the saturated first person action genre. »

Xbox World 360 Magazine UK 90/100

« A brilliantly atmospheric shooter with forgivably imperfect gunplay. Stick with it. »

Game Informer 90/100

« Metro 2033’s greatest success is the consistency of its pacing. You’re constantly encountering new factions, discovering interesting new locations, or being tasked to do something you haven’t done before. »

Cynamite 90/100

« Metro 2033 is a well-scripted shooter in a highly atmospheric post apocalyptic world. Well done, THQ! »

Pelit (Finland) 89/100

« Metro 2033 is Stalker done right. Gone are the half-working sandbox elements and infuriatingly underpowered weapons. Instead Metro delivers an expertly paced train ride though the spooky post-apocalyptic underbelly of Moscow. The English voiceovers are horrible, but in the end that doesn't really matter. Great game. [May 2010] »

Impulsegamer 88/100

« At the end of the day, I thoroughly enjoyed Metro 2033 which was quite a unique first person shooter and proves that this genre can have a very good storyline, just like BioShock. »

Avis des Joueurs (Metacritic)

LendasGeek 6/10

« Esse game é a definição de que jogos de terror podem sim ter um tema FPS, por mais que ele não de medo, ele aborda uma atmosfera tensa e de suspense, com uma ambientação boa e bem feita, sem muita enrolação e direto ao ponto, o jogo é curto e até que diverte bastante, enfim eu recomendo muito para os amantes de jogos de terror e tiro. »

umutcetinbas 8/10

« [SPOILER ALERT: This review contains spoilers.] »

Mindurbidniss 6/10

« Such a brilliant game buried under poor design choices. Just a shame because the world building is truly one of a kind. The gun combat is also amazing. There were just too many moments that were designed so awfully that they took me out of the experience. »

Tamajon21 9/10

« Excelente juego, con excelente historia y ambientación. El nivel de dificultad está bien equilibrado y junto con la jugabilidad te permite sumergirte en la historia. Muy recomendado »

chusoman 4/10

« The photography is ugly, the gameplay is boring. The lighting is ugly, and some weapons damage are not well done. »

Tabbou 2/10

« Gameplay pas à mon goût, histoire okay, semblable aux autres jeux métro dans le fond, au final ça ne vaut pas le coup, économisez du temps et de l'argent. »

BigYeedus 8/10

« Apocalyptic Euro-jank first-person shooter. Interesting gameplay mechanics encourage the player to resist usual genre instincts. It's tense and moody, with its literary origins adapting well to this format. Haunting and evocative. »

Vestam 9/10

« The game is good, but I encountered some bugs. It effectively conveys horror and tension. The locations are very detailed, and the characters' actions are well-reflected. I got bored in very few places. Overall, it's a very good game. »
