Histoire (IGDB)
It was Richter Belmont, the legendary vampire hunter, who succeeded in finally ending the menace of Count Dracula, Lord of the Vampires, who had been brought back from the grave by the dark priest Shaft in Rondo of Blood. However, one night 4 years later, under the glare of a full moon, Richter mysteriously vanished. With no idea where to begin her search, Maria Renard set out to look for him. It was then that fate intervened. Castlevania, the castle of Dracula, which is rumored to appear once every century, suddenly materialized from out of the mist as if to show her the way. Meanwhile, powerful forces were struggling for the soul of a man named Alucard. The very same Alucard who had teamed up with Trevor Belmont to battle his immortal father, Count Vlad Tepes Dracula. Alucard, in order to purge the world of his own cursed blood line, had submerged his vampiric powers and entered into what was supposed to be an eternal slumber. But now, he is awake and aware of the evil once again at work in his homeland. The time has once again come for the forces of Good and Evil to engage in their ancient battle. Dracula's castle beckons you…

Critiques de la Presse (Metacritic)
« If I’ve said it once, I have said it a thousand times; this is the greatest game ever. There is really nothing wrong with this game whatsoever. If you enjoy old school side scrolling, or you just want a really good adventure game to play on your 360. Look no further than Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, you won’t be disappointed at all! »
« With a mixture of open-ended gameplay elements, more advanced controls, and a gripping story, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is the epitome of the side-scrolling genre. »
« The future of Xbox Live Arcade starts here and today with Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. »
« It was, and still is, a gaming masterpiece. The term ‘Must Buy’ was created for games like this. »
« Symphony of the Night presents exquisite design, extraordinary scope, aesthetic coherence and transcendent elegance mostly unmatched elsewhere on Xbox Live Arcade, or anywhere else for that matter. »
« Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is easily one of the greatest games of all time, this is a pretty solid version minus a few oddities and a piss-poor d-pad (if Konami brought the game, the least Microsoft could do is give us a decent pad for it now), and at the price of $10 it's a steal. »
« Symphony of the Night is a momentous addition to the Xbox Live Arcade family, both because of its incredible depth and the fact that it is the first game allowed to break the 50 MB size restrictions. »
« Gameplay on the 360 is almost perfect, but for the mushy d-pad on the wireless controller. Precise jumping (of which there isn't all that much, thankfully) or very quick direction changes aren’t always easy. You definitely have to want to look past some of the issues this creates. But when the core game is this great, that’s pretty easy to do. »

« A phenomenal piece of art, a brilliant soundtrack and incredibly satisfying gameplay. It has aged very well, and the inverted castle really showcases excellent level design. Together with Aria of Sorrow absolute must-play in the genre. It’s a timeless classic that I’ll be returning to again and again. 10/10 »

« O melhor Castlevania de todos os tempos. Simplesmente definiu um novo gênero conhecido como "Metroidvânia". »
« I played this through the Requiem version on PS4, and man, it’s fantastic. I can see why it’s considered to be one of the greatest games of all time and how it and Super Metroid established the Metroidvania genre. This game uses more RPG type elements with its xp and level up system to make Alucard stronger. Also, I know the Requiem version uses the Dracula X version, which came out on PSP, so the voice acting did change and I absolutely loved it and was surprised that Yuri Lowenthal voiced Alucard and he did a great job. I would absolutely recommend this game if anybody has not already played it. »
« Pour un jeu de 97,c'est une œuvre d'art. Je n avais jamais vu un aussi bon jeu »
« 8/10 gameplay 9/10 atmosphere 8/10 value 10/10 performance +points for timelessness +points for influence »
« Symphony of the Night lo empezó todo. »
« It's good but a tad bit overrated. Many of the things you acquire in the castle are useless or underpowered by the time you get them. Artwork and graphics are timeless. Inverted castle is unnecessary padding in my opinion. Music is amazing, with about the same amount of euphoric high points as Rondo of Blood, leagues better than IV's overrated OST. »
