Serious Sam: Next Encounter
Serious Sam: Next Encounter
Description (IGDB)
In this installment of the Serious Sam series, Sam takes on a new arch-nemesis "Mini Sam", an evil clone of the hero Sam "Serious" Stone. Mini Sam has taken control of the timelock and is going through time wiping out ancient civilizations - and it is up to Serious Sam to put a stop to him. The game takes the player through over 40 levels in three historic locations; Ancient Rome, Feudal China and Legendary Atlantis. The PS2 version includes online multiplayer support for up to 8 players via the broadband adapter and two players on one PS2, while the GC version allows 4 players to battle it out on one GameCube. Competitive multiplayer modes include Deathmatch, Hold the Flag and Pass the Bomb. The entire single player campaign can be played through co-operatively, allowing two players to help each other take on the vicious armies of Mental and Mini-Sam.

Critiques de la Presse (Metacritic)
« While the single player game is basic and ultimately boring, the game more than makes up for that with its online play. »
« This is unapologetically brainless fun at its most brainless and fun. Give it a shot. [June 2004, p.30] »
« Delivers all the requirements of an exciting FPS, and the 20-buck asking price is a sweet incentive. Second Encounter is a shooter with simple requirements: A minimum of brains and maximum of reflexes. »
« Hidden levels, new features, and cheats all await the dedicated gamer. However, it will take a seriously patient player to not only finish the game, but to go back and earn the gold medals. [May 2004, p.94] »
« Those wanting a deep, story oriented game should definitely look elsewhere but if you want a game which you can pick up once every few weeks and have nothing to worry about other then destroying hordes of enemies, then Serious Sam: Next Encounter is definitely it. »
« The game has the energy and vibe of a Roger Corman film, and like Corman's movies, Serious Sam: Next Encounter not only feels like it was created in just a few days on a very low budget, but it's also obvious from the puckish spirit of the final product that the people who made the game had one hell of a time doing so. »
« The overall concept is repetitive (walk in area, door shuts, tons of monsters come at you until all of them are dead), but the furious action keeps the game interesting. »
« The Croteam-developed games developed a sense on tension because it was a bit tougher. Here, you are given much ammo to destroy the enemies so it becomes even more of a shoot-a-thon. »

« Not yet Serious Sam 2, but not Serious Sam 1, cutscenes have become humorous, but there are very few of them, the graphics are more cartoony, but not too much, Only 1 new weapon - laser beam, given at the end, According to the locations, these are all sorts of mountains and Asian-style temples, at the end - it`s spaceship, OK, but nothing memorable The same can be said for the rest of the game. I did not notice any special specifics for playing on a joystick, except for auto-aim and a slightly larger number of arenas, Monster designs are bad, unmemorable, there are 2 middle bosses and a very bad final boss, they let you ride the hammer 2 more times, I, as a fan of the series, completed it, but I do not recommend to others.
