Description (IGDB)

Mega Man Powered Up, known as Rockman Rockman in Japan, is a remake of the first Mega Man game. It was released worldwide for the PlayStation Portable in March 2006. It was later released in a bundle alongside Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X and was slated for release on the PSP's PlayStation Network. It was released for the PlayStation Network service in Japan, but a US release did not occur due to technical difficulties. The game uses a chibi-style that was intended for the original game but was not possible at the time. The designers intended to keep this design faithful to the way the characters worked and looked in the original. While it received generally positive reviews, the game sold poorly, and plans for a remake of Mega Man 2 titled Mega Man Powered Up 2 fell through.

Histoire (IGDB)

The robot creator Doctor Light created two human-like robots with advanced artificial intelligence named Rock and Roll. Following this, he created eight more robots intended for industrial use: Cut Man, Guts Man, Ice Man, Bomb Man, Fire Man, Elec Man, Time Man, and Oil Man. He received a Nobel Prize for Physics, and his old colleague and rival Doctor Wily has grown bitter for not being acknowledged for his work on the project. Wily discovered a prototype robot made by Doctor Light before Rock and Roll called Proto Man, who is in danger of having his energy generator go critical. Wily gave him a nuclear energy supply to extend his life. He later steals and reprograms the eight industrial robots to attempt world domination. Rock volunteered to stop Wily and rescue his friends, and Dr. Light converted him into a fighting robot, giving him a new name: Mega Man. After defeating all eight Robot Masters and returning them to normal, Mega Man goes through Dr. Wily's fortress and challenges him. After beating Wily, the mad scientist surrenders and asks Mega Man to spare him. Mega Man then returns home, where he's greeted by Dr. Light, Roll, and his friends.

GameSpy 100/100

« By far my favorite PSP game yet. Not only is it an outstanding remake of an already fantastic game, but there's an entirely new version of the game with tons of replay value thanks to all of the unlockable characters. »

AceGamez 100/100

« It's a truckload of fun, controls tightly, never lets the player down with framerate issues, offers an obscene amount of things to see and do, all the while oozing charm, personality and unbridled quality from every one of its robotic nooks and crannies (now there's a nice image to take with you). »

GameBrink 98/100

« The game dreams are made of. It’s beautiful, has hundreds and hundreds of professionally made challenging levels, a dozen playable characters, an in-depth level creator, and internet capabilities for endless replay through downloading new levels. [JPN Import] »

GameZone 91/100

« Nearly every aspect of this game is perfect, and despite its historic roots, becomes a 'must own,' not only for Mega Man fans, but for every PSP owner out there. »

GamerFeed 90/100

« The ability to control bosses later on is a bit floundering, but, otherwise, what we have here is a kick-ass ride that delivers on presentation, gameplay, and challenge. »

ZTGD 90/100

« Definitely give Powered Up a chance, even if you have never been a fan of the series I guarantee you will find plenty to love in this game. »

Gaming Target 90/100

« Powered Up is definitely the most comprehensive Mega Man game out there. »

Thunderbolt 90/100

« If you can cope with the obvious limitations that a remake has in following its source material (although the sticky movement – Mega Man not moving for a millisecond when you command him to from a stationary pose – could have been done without), Powered Up is the ultimate bang for your buck. »

« I'm a little sadden that Mega Man Powered Up did not do as well as it did because of the artstyle, but make no mistake that Mega Man Powered Up is easily one of the best remakes **** you could ever play. The original Mega Man game had 6 robot masters, a rather unbalanced design compared to the rest of the series, and a next to nothing story. Power Up takes all these failings of the original Mega Man and adds and adjusts accordingly; 2 new robot masters, an opening stage and boss dialogue that helps explain the game and personalities of everyone, and a game design not just with Mega Man in mind, but the entire cast of the game to play through including Roll! Mega Man Powered Up even has it's own stage editor to play along with and if that isn't enough to sell you on the game, I don't know what is. Powered Up just did so many things right, but due to only being on the PSP and with an art style that didn't appeal to Americans, it was sadly toss aside. Please correct this by playing this amazing game, you will not be disappointed! »

« Mega Man Powered Up is a PSP game that takes the first Mega Man game and remasters it with 3D graphics on a 2.5D plane. Along with the newer graphics, the game also offers two new robot bosses, a saving system, a new difficulty setting, a option to build your own stages and the ability to unlock extra characters you can play as an alternative to Mega Man. While this all sounds fabulous, there are issues. To begin with, the character models are kind of squished up, giving it a chibi looking style of art. Also, the game screen is super zoomed in to the point sometimes you'll jump and bump your head on unseen platforms or obstacles. Further, the game has employed sort of a story based explanation to the game, along with voice acting and cut scenes, but the game largely ignores source material and some of the story telling choices make no sense. Finally, the game suffers from lag or slow down a lot of the time. When too many enemies are on the screen, the game can slow to a crawl and when you consider the fact most Mega Man games rely on quick reflexs to get past some enemies and obstacles, it becomes a huge issue. Considering the fact this is on the PSP and there are much more graphically intensive games on the platform, it's pretty obvious it is due to poor programming and that is absolutely unacceptable. A decent little game, if you can overlook it's flaws or are a huge fan of the Mega Man franchise as a whole, you'll most likely enjoy it. »

« I can't believe this game has that high score. Its lvl design so bad and boring and the controlls are not very smooth. Also it was made to be very childish game. for being a real megaman fan of the series I find this a disgrace to the megaman title. »

GamecubeLover 9/10

« Mega Man Powered Up is not doing new things that make the game so fancy just some minor changes that make this game amazing! Just the new feel is only my one little problem with the game. »

JackTbug 10/10

« Mega man powered up is best psp game along with mega man maverick hunter X, It features oil man and time man as new bosses, however 8 bosses roll and protoman are playable, get mega man power up. »

Stealthgear 6/10

« This game required too much perfect jumping on a few levels which put a damper on this game. However the game looks and plays well on the surface. The music is great. Its probably one of the best PSP games. I'm just not going to sit here and say its tons of fun and give it a high rating. It becomes excruciating / annoying halfway through. The ability to collect different objects in different areas gave it a replay factor. The weapons and transformations of Mega Man are excellent. Its probably one of the best Mega Man games. This series just hasn't changed at all. This is for original Mega Man fans that played it on NES. »
