Electric Playground 60/100

« It is time to stop the bleeding, end the time consuming trend of monster training games and demand something better. »

Gaming Age 50/100

« Younger gamers and Digimon fans looking for a simple RPG to help pass some time, should give Digimon World 2 a try. »

GameShark 48/100

« The main difference between this and Pokemon is that Pokemon doesn't suck as much. Game play in Digimon World 2 is the equivalent of a snail race. »

IGN 40/100

« Essentially a dull dungeon crawl. »

Electronic Gaming Monthly 28/100

« Combat is about as exciting as watching paint dry. [Aug 2001, p.112] »

« Dude the review from gameshark that said this game is worse than pokemon is absurd, i dont know what pokemon games they played but pokemon games are all sluggish as heck, they never innovate and their evolution is meaningless and boring. They are filled with microtransaction if you dont have friends. Story and premise are always a scam. About this game, its great cos its the first game that allows you to have all digimons available ingame with only a few bosses digimons out of this criteria. But the ability to get what usually only enemy types digimon is so refreshing and exciting. And although its true that the game is super slow, it still so rewarding, and the rewarding is certain (high recommended to find evolution guide for dv points to enjoy evolution to the fullest) unlike pokemon with no inheritance of skills and useless breeding. Evolution and fusion breeding here is so satisfying and rewarding that you could build custom digimon as you fuse them as you like. And recruiting is more clear and honest than pokemon where they tricked you to think that the wiggling of the ball means anything toward the catching rate, here on this game you could see the catching rate through gift mechanics. And throwing gift mechanics also make catching and recruiting digimons more dynamic. Sure if you dont like to think, this game might not be for you. But for those who loves planning abd management then executes them, its so satisfying. No pokemon games ever beat this, that shows how bad pokemon games really are. »

« Not perfect but it is so true to the newcoming digimon games on the way of digivolving and the JRPG complexitiy i think is the most achieved for the ps1 era compared to other monster capture style... better than DW1 and better than any pokemon still »

« A complete downgrade from the original in format and design, the game is too long, 60-80 hours of the most boring dungeon crawler, filled hidden traps that feel more of a setback that an actual mechanic. The Digimon leveling is horrendous with constant level caps to drag out the game, forcing you to dna digivolve to gain a few more levels. The extended catalogue of Digimon and the dna digivolving is a great idea poorly implemented due to the level cap as it hinders the game so much that if it was removed it would be a much more enjoyable experience. »

« Pra mim o melhor jogo de Digimon já criado, um ponto positivo é poder capturar os Digimons nas dungeons para formar a sua equipe. O sistema de digievolução é bastante complexo e pode ser difícil de entender pra muitas pessoas, mas após ser entendido fica bem simples. O único ponto negativo é que as batalhas acabam sendo muito longas. »

« Jogo bem lento e chato, com uma mecânica de dungeon totalmente desinteressante »
