Description (IGDB)

A Way Out is a cooperative action-adventure game designed exclusively for two-player split-screen play, either locally or online. Each player controls one of two protagonists, Leo and Vincent, who form a reluctant partnership to break out of prison. Gameplay involves stealth, combat, driving, and environmental puzzle-solving, with both characters taking different cooperative roles in each situation. The game features a branching narrative that unfolds simultaneously for both players through its split-screen presentation.

Histoire (IGDB)

In 1972, Vincent Moretti is sent to prison for fraud and murder, where he meets Leo Caruso, serving time for armed robbery. After a thug sent by crime boss Harvey attempts to kill Leo, Vincent intervenes, and the two form an uneasy alliance to escape. Vincent reveals Harvey murdered his brother and framed him; Leo reveals Harvey betrayed him after they stole the Black Orlov diamond together. After breaking out, the pair track Harvey to Mexico, kill him, and recover the diamond. Upon returning to the United States, Vincent is revealed to be an undercover FBI agent whose brother was killed during the sting operation that led to Leo's arrest. Feeling betrayed, Leo takes Vincent hostage and flees. Their confrontation ends with one killing the other, depending on the players' actions.

PlayStation LifeStyle 100/100

« A Way Out is a true achievement in game design. Not only does it manage to take players on a true journey of emotion, it does so in a way that is only possible through the medium of video games. It manages to do something truly special by making two players to cooperate for an extended amount of time, and the discussions that happen on the couch or over voice chat can be just as revealing as the game itself. Josef Fares and Hazelight have undoubtedly raised the bar for co-op gaming. »

Areajugones 95/100

« Hazelight Studios redefines with A Way Out what a co-op game should be. Leo and Vincent’s story has the players facing situations like we have never seen in a videogame before. This is undoubtedly one of this year’s best surprises. »

GameSpew 90/100

« A Way Out is a triumph for co-op games. From the way it's uniquely presented to the way it demands that you work together to overcome problems you can't solve independently, it grabs your attention and doesn't let go until the credits roll. And then you'll probably go back to make different choices during pivotal key scenes to see what you've missed. »

Twinfinite 90/100

« If you're not a fan of linear games, you should probably play A Way Out anyway. The game's presentation of a truly co-operative story is sublime, and it makes full use of the video game medium as a method to punctuate the dramatic moments and develop its characters. Like Brothers, A Way Out presents a unique twist to the cinematic story formula, and it sticks the landing. »

Video Chums 90/100

« A Way Out is possibly the best cooperative video game ever created. Its movie-quality cinematography, intuitive and varied gameplay, and engaging story full of unique stand-out scenarios make it one incredibly memorable interactive experience. »

GamesRadar+ 90/100

« A Way Out elevates co-op gaming in a way nothing has before, bringing players together to create one beautifully told story that everyone needs to experience. »

Wccftech 90/100

« A Way Out is an impressive achievement that definitively proves creativity matters more than bloated budgets and big-name franchises. A technically accomplished, endlessly inventive co-op masterpiece, A Way Out will surprise and excite you from beginning to end. This one deserves to be a breakout hit. »

Everyeye.it 90/100

VitoSintetico 8/10

« El unico juego en mi vida que jugué con mi viejo, de principio a fin. Además, piso muy fuerte con la idea de si o si tener que ser cooperativo, y desde entonces lo han seguido juegazos como It Takes Two o Split Fiction. »

« absolute masterpiece ****. still hoping for a sequel or a remaster probably best action splitscreen game »

Malakopituras7 10/10

« The most under appreciated co-op game of all time. There is nothing that makes it a 8/10 or even less. It has a very memorable and well written story especially the ending. It has a very fun combat and gameplay which is very well made for 2 players. The interaction with the world is great and generally there are zero flaws. A way out is a hidden gem and an underrated game. »

TalonIsMe4 10/10

« In my opinion, this is a perfect game. It has an unforgettable story with pretty decent characters. Some people might say that the gameplay isn't great, but I honestly love it. Being able to explore and interact with the world is something more games need. 10/10 would find a way out again! »

f_152 8/10

« It is an enjoyable co-op experience from Hazelight. You can see that this game is their first one, and as fine co-op experience as it is, the gameplay is not even near to the bar they set later with It Takes Two and Split Fiction. I just think the bar that they set later is so high, that it overshadows a bit older good game. »

Firat5895 3/10

« Kontroller ham. »

Camel_King54 7/10

« I played it twice when it first came out. Love it. I did it again recently and I saw so many flaws that downgraded my note. Still is the best prison game i’ve played. It is one of the biggest chock I had in a game at the end. »
